I am an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Edwin L. Cox School of Business of Southern Methodist University (SMU). Prior to joining SMU, I was on the faculty at Vanderbilt University. I have a Ph.D. in Finance from the Stern School of Business (New York University), an M.Phil. in Finance from New York University, an M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), and a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM). My primary research interests include financial institutions, and international finance. My research has been published or is forthcoming in top-tier finance journals, such as the Review of Financial Studies (RFS), the Journal of Financial Economics (JFE) and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis (JFQA). I have received awards both for my research and for my teaching. My paper entitled "News Spillovers in the Sovereign Debt Market," co-authored with David Parsley was published in March 2005 issue of the Journal of Financial Economics, and took the top prize in the FMA Competitive Best Paper Award in the Fixed Income category in 2002. My paper "Bank Entry, Competition, and the Market for Corporate Securities Underwriting," co-authored with Manju Puri and Anthony Saunders won the Fama-DFA first prize for best paper published in the Journal of Financial Economics during 1999 in the capital markets and asset-pricing category. My paper "Enhancing Security Value through Ownership Restrictions: Evidence from a Natural Experiment," co-authored with Manju Puri won the Addison-Wesley prize for the best paper published in the Financial Management during 2004-2006. I have been honored twice with the James A. Webb Jr. Award for teaching excellence by the graduating MBA classes at Vanderbilt University in 2001 and 2003, where I taught Corporate Finance and International Finance courses in the full-time MBA program and in the Executive MBA program. I was recently awarded the Eugene T. Byrne Endowed Faculty Innovation award for 2008-2009 at Southern Methodist University. I currently teach similar courses in the Executive MBA, the full-time MBA, the professional MBA and the undergraduate BBA programs at the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University (SMU). Prior to my doctoral studies, I worked in Citibank India for four years in the Corporate Banking and International Finance areas. |
